Huntington Beach, CA – Rhys MIllen Racing closed out the 2009 race season with a Drift class class victory at California Speedway in Fontana. This is the second Time Attack win for the 2009. The 3.8L Lambda powered RMR / Red Bull / Hyundai Genesis Coupe posted a 1:48.00 lap time with a top speed of 155 mph – 6 seconds faster than the next competitor. “This is the vehicle I have driven all season, and I knew it could handle the high speeds and heavy braking at California Speedway,” said Rhys. “I was confident I could push as hard as I wanted and that the Lambda powerplant would never let me down.” This motor is the same combination used all year in drift competition as well as the World Record setting run at PIkes Peak, showing the reliability and competitiveness of the factory Genesis platform. “This is a great way to finish the 2009 season and gives us momentum heading into 2010 with a proven engine package and engine setup,”said Team Manager Eric Cantore. “Next year we will be running in the very competive Modified Class so during the offseason we are going to drop significant weight and extract another 200+ HP out of the car.” “Our Toyo R1-R’s were consistent all weekend, giving us confidence at such high speeds,” said Crew Chief Costa Gialmas. “We are looking forward to running next season with the Toyo R888 Competition Tire. The extra grip will help to shave even more time off the clock and hopefully lead to another class championship.” The RMR / Red Bull / Hyundai Genesis Coupe begins 2010 competition at the Formula Drift season opener in Long Beach, CA on April 8th-9th.
