Here is Tyler McQuarrie in his Mobil1 GoPro Yokohama Tire Camaro on Enkei RPF1’s. Tyler had some aggressive runs but had some electrical issues in Top 32, and was not able to advance to top 16. Joon Maeng was on fire pretty much the entire weekend and advanced to Top 16.
Toshiki Yoshioka in his S15 on Enkei RPF1‘s made it to top 16 and was put against another Enkei equipped car Joon Maeng’s RX8 on PF01’s. Joon advanced to the Great 8.
Rhys Millen driving the Hyundai Genesis on Enkei PF01’s also had a great weekend making it to the Great 8 as well.
Rhys was put against last year’s rookie of the year Fredric Aasbo and had super close battle but was not able to advance to the Final 4. As you can see by this photo, Rhys was on his A game and mirroring Aasbo in their final run. Aasbo went on to win second place. Rhys finished 5th and is now 4th in points for the season.
Joon Maeng had excellent runs throughout the event in his Nitto Tire Bergenholtz Racing RX8 on Enkei PF01’s.
Joon advanced to the Great 8 but had some traction troubles and could not keep the RX8 on the track. Joon put the car on the grass a couple of times and ended up ramming into Walker’s S13.
That ended Joon’s weekend but it did not stop the fans from cheering his name! This is a photo from earlier in the day but Atlanta has love for Gentle Joon Maeng that’s for sure!
This was Formula Drift’s 9th time coming to Road Atlanta and it was nothing short of a spectacle spectacular weekend filled with drift action, some controversy, and a lot of spirited drift fans! Below are more drift photos and photos of other cars on Enkei Wheels. More proof Enkei wheels are made tough and put to rigorous on track testing! – Alex
Tony B’s new Mustang on NT03+M Racing Series wheels.
Ryan Kado is a Formula Drift rookie who performed well in ATL. Even giving veteran Rhys Millen a “One More Time” run during Top 32. “One More Time” is when the first two runs are too close to call. The drivers go at it a second time or until their is a clear winner. Kado runs the RPF1.
